Ohio Medicare Plans & Medicare Supplement Insurance F.A.Q.

People whom are receiving a social security check prior to turning 65 will generally automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and B and there is nothing you need to do to enroll. People whom are not receiving a Social Security Check will need to enroll with Medicare. This can be done by calling 1-800- Medicare or by going to Medicare.gov and enrolling online. People turning 65 whom qualify are eligible for Medicare the 1st of the month in which they turn 65. People whom were born on the 1st of the month are eligible to get Medicare the 1st of the month prior to their 65th birthday.

Medicare Part A is Hospital Coverage. Examples of coverage. Hospital stays, Skilled Nursing, Hospice
Medicare Part B is Medical Coverage example of things covered. Doctor’s appointments, outpatient procedures and testing, emergency room visits, urgent care, ambulance, etc.
Medicare Part C is Medicare Advantage Plans. These plans are all in one plans in which you take your Medicare benefits A Hospital and B Medicare through a private insurance company that has a Medicare Contract. These types of plans may or may not include Part D drug coverage. Theses style of plans may also coverage benefits above and beyond what original Medicare covers such as Dental, Vision, Hearing Aid Benefits, Over-the- counter Benefits, Transportation Benefits and Foreign Emergency Travel. These benefit vary widely from plan to plan and may or may not be included. These plans are generally network based plans such as HMO or PPO plans.
Medicare Part D is Outpatient Prescription Drug Coverage– These plans are offered by private insurance companies with a Medicare Contract. In 2022 there were 23

In order to get these benefits you would usually need to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plans that offers these benefits. These benefits are not included in all Medicare Advantage Plans and coverage for these items can vary widely from plan to plan. If you choose to take your benefits through Original Medicare and a Supplement and want dental or vision coverage you would need to find a private company that offers these coverage and pay an extra premium for them.

The county you live in determines what Medicare Advantage Plans are available for you to choose from. Some counties offer plans that offer a kick back and others do not. The net effect of this and benefit to you is your social security check will be higher by the amount of the kickback they plan offers. The Part B kickback is only offered in Medicare Advantage Plans and not with Original Medicare and a Supplement. The standard premium for Medicare Part B is for 2022 is $170.10 per month. If you are getting a social security check this premium is deducted from your check. If not you get billed directly from Medicare. Some people will pay higher premiums based upon their income and how they file their tax return.
